How does it work?
Let's be honest - no one really likes needles. But we have good news...
All DrugSmart pharmacists are injection-certified, and we'll take care of you.
Please note that pharmacists are not able to inject children under the age of 5.
Amended regulations under the Pharmacy Act expand pharmacist authority relating to the administration of vaccines. Building on the success of pharmacists’ participation in the administration of flu shots through Ontario’s Universal Influenza Immunization Program (UIIP), these recent changes provide patients with more convenient access to many routine vaccines, particularly related to travel. Additionally, patient safety will be improved because temperature sensitive vaccines can now be administered on-site at one of our pharmacies, instead of having to be transported to another location for administration by a different healthcare provider.
DrugSmart pharmacists are authorized to inject the following vaccines:
Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG)
Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
Herpes Zoster (Shingles)
Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
Influenza (Flu Shots)
At DrugSmart Pharmacy, an injection visit costs $15. Flu shots are covered by OHIP.
*NOTE: There is currently a national shortage of this vaccine. Please contact us before bringing your prescription for Yellow Fever to the pharmacy.
